Young people in Warwick could soon have a new community facility on the banks of the Avon.
Plans to relocate the Second Warwick Sea Scouts from their current home off Pickard Street to Myton Fields were given the go-ahead at a Warwick District Council executive committee meeting on Wednesday.

The current headquarters need replacing and
- according to cultural services at the district council - have caused "a degree of conflict between users and residents".

Alternative sites were considered last December, and it was decided that a plot off Myton Road was the best location.

Access to the existing centre is by narrow residential streets, it has "problematic" parking and is within the floodplain.

The new headquarters would be purpose-built with easy access for users.

It is proposed the new building could also be used by other community groups in need of meeting rooms, including the Junior Angling Committee based at Myton Pool and the Boat Centre which operates out of St Nicholas Park boat house.

Discussions have been held between the Sea Scouts and Warwick School about parking, but formal consultation with Myton Road residents has yet to take place.

Speaking at the meeting Coun Chris White (Con, Warwick South), who is responsible for leisure policy in the district said: "This is an excellent facility for young people and we should grant it permission."

* The executive granted 'landlord's permission' to use the site should planning permission for the new development be granted.
