Brakes made it three league wins from from three with a goal in each half to see off Dunstable on Saturday.
After the previous Tuesday's stirring victory over Nuneaton Town, this was a low-key affair in front of a crowd of 475, well below last season's average.

Despite being far from a vintage performance, it was enough to lift Brakes up to third in the table, ahead of the trip to Bromsgrove Rovers today (Monday), and keep up the early season momentum.

Brakes had started well enough with James Husband forcing a near-post save from Paul Taylor on just seven minutes. Dunstable had chances of their own and home 'keeper Richard Morris palmed away a good cross from the left by Krystof Matyszkiewkz shortly after.

But Husband was soon back in the action, drawing a good save from Taylor to his inswinging free-kick after Jamie Towers had been fouled.

The home strikers, particularly Luke Corbett, were frequently being caught out by Dunstable's off-side trap but on 18 minutes, Liam Reynolds found a way through and Luke Corbett scored his second goal for the club after joining from Bishops Cleeve.

Matyszkiewkz went on a good run on 34 minutes, but sent his shot wide.

Then, with five minutes of the half remaining, the Dunstable striker found himself with only Morris to beat, but he didn't get a clean strike. On the stroke of half-time, Nick Nolan fouled Corbett and Towers sent in a free-kick that Taylor just put over the bar.

Brakes started brightly in the second half with Adam Cooper heading over from a Towers corner in the 55th minute.

Dunstable's best chance came on 61 minutes, as Stuart Sinclair's long-range shot almost caught Morris napping, but he just managed to tip the ball over the bar.

Leamington put the match beyond doubt with 16 minutes remaining, substitute Mykel Beckley opening his account for the club when latching on to a precision pass from Mark Bellingham and drilling the ball into the corner of the net.

With seven minutes to go, Husband beat Ross Hanley and sent a good pass to Bellingham, but the former Stourbridge striker was denied when Danny Ryan tugged at his shirt on the edge of the penalty area, earning the Dunstable defender a booking.

Beckley went on another good run, setting up Shay Morgan, but the shot was deflected or a corner that came to nothing.

Dunstable's misery was compounded when Ryan was taken off on a stretcher near the end, having fallen awkwardly when challenging Bellingham in the penalty area.

Manager Jason Cadden was satisfied with the win.

He said: "It was not the best of performances, but we ground out a result and got the three points. The players seemed tired after Tuesday and we rested Mark Bellingham with Monday's match in mind."
