After hours sifting through hundreds of contenders, Matilda and Sandy are our Cat and Dog of the Year.
Owner Audra Taylor, of Campion Terrace, Leamington sent us the picture which made young Sandy top dog, while Charles Fieldgate, of Kenilworth, introduced us to the gorgeous Matilda.

They win £100 in vouchers to spend at Petville, and the prestigious title.

More than 500 proud owners entered this popular competition, and a slideshow of just some of their pets can be viewed from this page. Just click play.

Such was the standard, the paper and sponsor Petville decided to award two dogs and cats a 'highly commended' honour.

They receive vouchers to spend at the shop, which opened in March and offers natural foods and a range of supplements and medicines.

They were:

* Berni Albrighton of Stretton-on-Dunsmore, who sent in a snap of "her darling boy Henry", a three-and-a-half-year-old Great Dane.

* Warwick's Angela Callicott, who sent in a picture of 14-month-old Retriever pup Toby enjoying the great outdoors.

* Katherine Williams, of Kenilworth, for a shot of her cat Minnie enjoying time on a sunny trampoline.

* Ross More, of Leam Street Leamington, who sent in a napping Tika.

Thanks to everyone who took part.
