After runs in the West End and at Edinburgh Festival, Philip York's one-man show Lies Have Been Told will be performed at Eathorpe.
Much has been speculated about the life and death of media mogul Robert Maxwell, but in this humorous play by Rod Beacham Maxwell gets to tell his side of the story.
On November 5, 1991, Maxwell disappeared from his luxury yacht in the Canary Islands. His naked body was found floating in the ocean 15 miles away. It was later confirmed that he had misappropriated hundreds of millions of pounds from his companies’ pension funds to finance his corporate debt, frantic takeovers and lavish lifestyle. Was it suicide? Was it murder? Did he actually die at all?
In this show York attempts captures Maxwell’s personality to reveal the man behind the monster.
Events organiser at Eathorpe village hall Sue Burt said: “It really is a fabulous opportunity for us to put the act on here.
“We’ve staged lots of very successful events with the help of Live and Local sponsorship, and it seems our hard work has paid off. It has had brilliant reviews and I can’t wait to see it.”
The performance will be on September 13 at 8pm. Tickets cost £8, £6 or £5. Call 632575 or 632242.
